I wanted to share a little bit about my experience using Lubricity Labs products and how they have positively impacted my hair as I transition from chemically straightened hair to my naturally curly texture.
A little bit about my hair history - I have always had very curly, poofy/frizzy and unmanageable hair: Think Shirley Temple in extreme Washington DC humidity. My mom also had curly hair and but kept it very short for her entire adult life, so when I was a child the only way she knew how to "deal" with my hair was to insist that it be kept super short as well. I hated my hair so much that I went to bed wishing I would wake up and suddenly have long, straight, shiny and manageable hair - and thus the battle against my natural texture began. I spent the next 15 years flat ironing it, getting keratin treatments, and eventually splurging on permanent straightening (Japanese Hair Straightening/Thermal Reconditioning). I finally had a moment a year ago when I turned 25 and realized that chemical straightening wasn't sustainable for my hair or my wallet.
I am now 26 and in the final stages of "transitioning" (aka growing out the straightened portion and growing in my curls) and recently did a big chop where I removed the majority of my permanently straightened ends. Throughout this process I have tried what seems like every product under the sun but nothing really worked the way I wanted it to, or the way the marketing claims on the bottle promised. I decided to educate myself about cosmetic ingredients used in hair products and how they interact with the biology and anatomy of hair so that I could buy products that were more likely to be effective for ME, and that's how I found Lubricity. I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate Dr. Clark's persistence on finding an innovative solution for his daughter, and for sharing his solution through both products and educational videos and articles. I love all the Facebook videos on the science of haircare and how Lubricity works, and it's so refreshing to see a brand truly focused on innovation and evidence-based science, and not just putting a band-aid over the bullet hole of unruly hair.
I have been using the Q-Shampoo, Q-Condition, and Q-Restore for about a month now and the system has truly changed my hair for the better. The biggest difference I've noticed is an increase in shine and movement, and a decrease in frizz and drying time (which is truly a godsend).
Bottom line - you all are doing a great job, and I hope that you keep up the hard work. I've been spreading the word to my curly-haired friends about how much the Lubricity system has legitimately changed my life and for the first time ever has allowed me to feel confident when rocking my curly hair. It sounds silly to say because yes hair is "just hair", but it's such a huge part of self-confidence, especially for those of us who have always struggled with frizzy and unruly curls. I've attached a "before" and "after" pictures of my hair to show the improvement, and I am excited for it to continue to get better :)
Thanks again and keep up the hard work!!
Before Lubricity Labs
After Lubricity Labs
One of the most commonly-asked questions that Dr. Clark and staff receive at Lubricity Labs is from people asking how they can best care for their curly hair. Some prefer to straighten their curls, while others want the freedom to wear their hair curly. But whatever style they are seeking, they all want a frizz-free and fabulous final look that will last.
